Kung fu
Kungfu or Gongfu literally means mastery through practice and discipline and you can become Gongfu in everything.
We are talking about Eastern martial arts, sometimes also called Wushu (武 "Wu" = combat or martial, 術 "Shu" = art).
These are the fast, explosive forms, full of punches and kicks.
Qi Gong is internal, Taiji combines internal and external and Kungfu can be seen as external.
It is difficult to distinguish, some kung fu forms also have internal aspects such as BaGua and Xingyi,
In the end everything flows into each other, but looking at it this way helps to get an overview.
The basics
The San-Feng-Pai system builds on Jing Qi Shen (physical, energy and mind) and just like the technique used in explaining, teaching new students always starts from the Physical, the basis.
This means that before even 1 form can be taught, basics must first be learned.
How do you stand correctly?
This seems very basic, but knowing what points to pay attention to,
practicing and using them later in practice is of immense importance.
Stances, the entire system is based on stances,
certain postures you adopt, such as Horse Stance (mabu),
others are Gongbu, Xiebu, Xu Bu, San Qi Bu, Du Li Bu, ...
These are first taught statically, together with the necessary stretches.
Drills are then seen, which help to learn how to use the stances,
"walk through it" and create feeling.
Traditionally Ji Ben Quan (basic fist set) is then taught,
which consists of several basics.
This form also teaches you what it is like to learn and practice a form.
When your basic strength and flexibility is built up, you have the choice.
Qi Gong, Taiji or Kung Fu. Depending on the wishes of the student, a direction can be chosen here.
If Taiji is chosen, it is recommended to first learn a Qi Gong form.
This way you have gained external experience and internal experience before combining them.
Physical challenge
If you choose to continue in Kung Fu, you choose a physical challenge.
There is constructive work and "snapkicks" quickly become "Jumping-tornadokicks".
If you want to get better, faster and more powerful there is only one option, practice, practice, practice. Pushing yourself to give it your all, every workout. It's as much a mental challenge as a physical one. To avoid going too far it is recommended to also study internal forms as they balance your training.
Each form has a unique energy and will help you develop different qualities within yourself.
Elasticity, short powerburst, open moves, switching between styles, faster, deeper stances, ...
We build up until the external flows back into the internal with forms such as Xingyi, Bagua and finally Xuan Wu Quan condensing many internal and external forms together.
With us
San-Feng-pai Kungfu consists of many different styles, because it is an amalgamation of different sources (see reason for this). This has the advantage that there are many different forms with a different focus, which is good for your general development, but of course this ensures that the order is less exact.
After the Ji Ben Quan (basic fist set) there are other basics that are taught. Xuan Gong Quan (mysterious skill fist) 1, 2 and 3, these forms contain building basics in a challenging all-encompassing form. Then you can learn your first weapon.
Xuan Gong Dao (mysterious skill broadsword), this form opens up the body, especially the shoulders Or you might as well practice your first long weapon the staff, Ba Xian Gun (8 immortal staff).
Or you can choose the "empty hand" shapes:
Xuan Zhen Quan (mystical truth fist),
Fuhu Quan (tiger fist) + Long Hua Quan (dragon fist),
Baji Quan (8 extremities fist,
Bagua Zhang (8 trigram palms) or Xingyi quan (Mind intention fist)
before progressing to Xuan Wu Quan (Xuan Wu fist)
If you want to learn more weapons
Can you learn Spear, Hallberd or the Monk spade with the long weapons.
With short weapons you can go for the Fuchen, which also occurs in the Taiji system.
Or you choose a straight sword, the pride of Wudang where you can also learn these Kungfu sword forms in addition to the Taiji Jian.
Xuan Men jian (Mysterious gate sword)(part of the Taiji system)
Long Hua Jian (dragonsword), which builds on Long Hua Quan.
or Ba Xian Jian (8 Immortal Sword), a form with a similar style to Ba Xian Gun, yet completely different.
This is an example of a possible order (credits toWays Of Wudang)
Of course there are many other options depending on the interests and needs of the student.
